About Atlantico Furniture
The people at De La Espada have brought the wisdom of many years of solid wood furniture craft to the creation of Atlantico products. This wisdom informs the Atlantico brand, making Atlantico experts on natural materials. Our furniture benefits from a painstaking attention to detail and a purity of lines that are a tribute to our long-standing passion for minimalism. We draw inspiration from a number of sources throughout the world and over many centuries. Influences include the architecture of Cistercian monasteries in the Middle Ages, furniture made by the Shakers in the 19th century, Scandinavian and Japanese design and crafts, and the work of architects such as John Pawson and Claudio Silvestrin.
The Atlantico furniture range has a core of designs by an in-house creative team. The range also includes hand-picked designs from acclaimed international talent. Atlantico is hungry for ideas and is continually bringing in new inspiring designs and designers who share their vision of intelligent, well-made modern furniture.
Following are some key points about our solid wood furniture:
1. Atlantico makes use of three remarkable solid woods, American White Oak American Cherry, and American Black Walnut cut into planks of varying widths based on the best use of planks available. Every part of our timber furniture is solid wood, except for the backs of cabinets and bottom panels of drawers which are made from plywood then finished with veneer. This gives the cabinet a well-finished appearance from every angle.
2. Atlantico's decision to use available planks means that you will not always see wide expanses of grain, but you will see the depth of colour and texture that accompanies solid wood. The grain of our timbers is complex, and the varied widths of the planks means that surfaces become the result of the juxtaposition of many types of grain rather than dominated by the grain of one individual plank.
3. Atlantico finishes its timber with natural, hand applied Danish oil. This finish is reasonably durable and relatively easy to repair. It doesn't seal the timber in the same way as a lacquer, but it is sufficiently water and stain resistant to temporarily protect the timber from minor spillages.
4. Atlantico selects timber for quality, not necessarily for colour. You won't find any large knots or other large flaws in the timber. There will be a wide variety of colours for each finish, which will vary according to the specific timber and finish chosen.
5. Atlantico uses planks that have a finished size of less than 200cm or just under 79 inches. Above this size, finding suitable timber becomes complex, and we've chosen to cater strictly to customers looking for smaller pieces of furniture.
6. Atlantico designs can't be changed and we offer no alternative sizes beyond those published on our web site. This aids efficiency in production to allow us to offer the best price for the items we offer. We do encourage feedback, and will design new pieces in response to this feedback, so please feel free to offer your suggestions.
7. All dimensions are subject to a tolerance of + or - 2cm (3/4") in any given direction. We reserve the right to withdraw any item or to make changes to the specifications or prices without notice in the interest of improved quality and design, and we do not accept liability arising as a result of such changes.
